Pó de carboneto de silício  verde Breve  introdução: 

Este produto, cuja fórmula química é SiC, é obtido a partir da síntese de areia de quartzo de alta pureza e coque de petróleo como matérias-primas básicas sob alta temperatura num forno de resistência elétrica. Contém 85-99% de SiC e as misturas de Fe 2 O 3 , Al 2 O 3 , CaO, SiO 2 , MnO 2 .

Caracteriza-se por uma grande dureza (9,2 na escala de Mohs) e microdureza (cerca de 3500 kG/mm 2 ). A sua densidade (gravidade) de tipo hexagonal, que é afetada pelo grau de impureza, é de 3,15+/-0,05 g/cm 3 . A densidade aparente é igual a 1,30 – 1,58g/cm 3 . Boa condutividade térmica, baixa expansão térmica (diminuindo com o aumento da temperatura) e elevada resistência são outras características que garantem uma ampla utilização do material. Eletricamente é um semicondutor.
